The rabbi injured in the California synagogue shooting on Pesach said he found comfort in a personal call from President Donald Trump.
Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein of Chabad of Poway described the 10- to 15-minute conversation with Trump as meaningful.
“He was just so comforting,” Goldstein said at a press conference Sunday afternoon. “I’m really grateful to our president for taking the time and making that effort to share with us his comfort and consolation.”
Goldstein, 57, said he received the call at home and was amazed to hear the White House secretary on the line. It was his first conversation with a U.S. president, he said.
On Monday, President Trump Tweeted praise for the Shliach and his heroic actions after being shot at nearly point blank range.
“I spoke at length yesterday to Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein, Chabad of Poway, where I extended my warmest condolences to him and all affected by the shooting in California. What a great guy. He had a least one finger blown off, and all he wanted to do is help others. Very special!” the President Tweeted.

yes a life was lost but feel it was for a higher purpose almost like a Korban Pesach. May her soul rest in peace and be a Maylitz Yosher for all Yidden.
A true אוהב ישראל.
Rabbi Goldstein, I love you, but I believe you to be in the wrong here. Please remember that Donald Trump is the same man who called Neo-Nazis “Good people” at charlottesville.
What President Trump has done for the Jewish people no president has done. Here is just a partial list. He moved american embassy to Jerusalem He freed Rubashkin He declared Golan Heights part of Israel He stopped support of Iran who planned on killing six million Israeli jews in nine minutes He appointed conservative Supreme Court judges so that frum Jews can live their faith as liberals are trying to destroy morality. He stopped the international anti Israel court from going after israel. He appointed pro israel staff in top positions. He invites orthodox leaders to White House events and… Read more »
Heshy, kol hakavod,
The same way you open people’s eyes by recognizing truth so too we should be zoiche to open up our as the Rebbe told us to see Moshiach here & Now.
In his statement regarding Charlottesville, President Trump specifically excluded neo-Nazis. He said there were fine people on both sides of the question of Confederate statues, but “I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and white nationalists because they should be condemned totally.”
