President Donald Trump, a longtime New Yorker, commented on the state of the Big Apple in an interview on Tuesday, laying blame on Mayor Bill de Blasio.
“I left [New York City], it was four years ago; it was a wonderful place. You could see signs of badness but it was a wonderful place,” Trump told talk-show host Sean Hannity.
“What’s happening in New York is so horrible for our country. What they’ve done — what Mayor de Blasio has done to that city in a short period of time is horrible,” the Republican president said.
New York State has the second most deaths in the country from Covid-19 (after New York) and de Blasio has been criticized for how he has been handling the pandemic in the city since its outbreak.
He later angered many when he singled out “the Jewish community” as a whole in response to a Jewish funeral in Williamsburg that has not kept social distancing rules.
Following the shooting of George Floyd, de Blasio personally supported the mass protests of thousands of people held in defiance of CDC health recommendations. This was while he delayed the reopening of small businesses, houses of worship and city parks.
And despite the increased rate of shootings in the city, de Blasio supported calls to “defund the police” with the New York City Council slashing the NYPD’s budget by $1 billion.
NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea warned, according to the New York Post, that it would “impact our ability, I believe, to keep New Yorkers safe in some way, shape and form.”
“Cutting overtime, cutting head strength at a time of rising crime, is going to be an extreme challenge for the men and women of this department — extreme,” Shea said.
He is completely right. DeBlasio is a horror show.
We knew this without Trump saying it. Both democrats and republicans agree.
But Trump is the same or worse disaster then De Blasio. Maybe he should focus on what He himself needs to do!
