This Thursday, the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute (JLI) will be offering online training for educators and parents on how to support their youth emotionally as they transition into the new school year.
The CDC recently reported that 62 percent of our nation’s youth are experiencing anxiety or depression.
As part of My Life Is Worth Living, JLI’s new mental wellness educational initiative, JLI has committed to provide training to every youth-interfacing adult in the Jewish community to ensure they are adequately prepared to step up to this challenge. JLI is offering Emotional Lifeguard, a short evidence-based, interactive training conference with leading world experts in youth mental health, to enable educators and parents to step in and support the emotional needs of youth in their care.
Participants will learn how to assume a mentorship role, build rapport with their youth, alleviate stress and anxiety and cultivate self-esteem, recognize warning signs, assess risk, and learn how to intervene when a teen is at risk.
The training will be led by Bernadette Melnyk, PhD, APRN-CNP, EBP-C, FAANP, FNAP, FAAN, dean and professor at The Ohio State University College of Nursing and creator of the COPE Program; Jill Harkavy-Friedman, vice president of research at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) and associate professor of clinical psychology (in psychiatry) at Columbia University; Anne Andrew, PhD, founder of the Vancouver Jewish Healing Circle and author of What They Don’t Teach in Prenatal Class: The Key to Raising Trouble-Free Kids and Teens; Rabbi Meir Muller, PhD, assistant professor of instruction and teacher education at the University of South Carolina and principal of Cutler Jewish Day School; and Jeffrey Kranzler, PhD, LCSW, founder and director of Leaf Mentoring.

The training will be held on Thursday, September 3, at 6:00 p.m.–8:30 p.m. EDT.
