Avraham Se’adya, a 15-month-old Jewish infant, drowned in a bucket of paint that was left open outside his home in the southern Israeli city of Netivot on Monday night.
Paramedics from Magen David Adom (MDA) were rushed to the scene and tried to revive him, but the boy was found in severe condition. He was soon pronounced dead.
Members of the family who live in the ground-level apartment said the baby went missing for a few moments. The family has 8 children, the youngest was born a month ago.
The baby was then found headfirst in the bucket in the yard. A relative began resuscitating him until paramedics arrived, Ynet reported.
According to the B’terem organization for the safety of children, some 19 children drowned in Israel in a bucket or tub.
“Many homes go through extensive cleaning for Pesach which can pose a danger to children who are curious and are exploring the surroundings,” said the director Orly Silvinger.
She called on people to always empty out buckets and pales and close paint buckets.
