If vacationers to Park City think they can get a break from Judaism in Utah’s tourist hot spot, they might want to think again.
A Chabad Shluchim couple are moving to the city known for its three major ski resorts, golf courses, base of the United States Ski Team and the country’s largest independent film festival.
Rabbi Yudi Steiger and his wife Devory (nee Greenwald), with their 7 month-old son Shneor Zalman, are set to open a Chabad House in a city where the tourist population exceeds the number of permanent residents.
“We will be an ongoing Jewish resource for the thousands of Jewish tourists that visit Park City during the winter and summer months,” said the Antwerp-born rabbi. (His wife is from Kfar Chabad, Israel).
But their primary concern will be meeting the needs of some 300 Jewish families who live there year round.
Rabbi Steiger told COLlive he will be holding classes for both adults and children, and will be organizing kids and Holiday awareness activities and programs, and Shabbos and holiday dinners.
“Many members of the Park City Jewish community as well as countless visitors to the area have been asking us for a full time Chabad presence in Park City,” said Rabbi Benny Zippel, the Salt Lake City-based Head Shliach of Utah.
“We are glad to be able to welcome Rabbi and Rebbetzin Steiger amongst the many members of the Rebbe’s army to serve in that capacity,” added Rabbi Zippel.
So happy to hear this. I’m moving to Park City with my family and was planning to join the Chabbad in SLC. Now we will not have to travel very far to belong to a Chabbad! Looking forward to new beginnings.
