A Torah is being written to honor the life of Kazi Benjamin obm, (Kasriel ben Yehuda) who passed away at the young age of 25.
The Torah is sponsored by friends of Kazi, who fondly remember him as a kind and compassionate individual who touched the lives of everyone he met.
They are hoping to complete this Sefer Torah in time for his 2nd yahrtzeit coming up on August 25.
So far, they’ve raised almost $20,000 and are setting the goal to completion at $10,000.
Additional funds raised will go to the purchase of a mantel (Torah cover), a crown (keser) and the “siyum sefer torah” event to be held in Crown Heights, Brooklyn on the Yahrtzeit.
The Torah will be housed at Itchke’s Shtiebel synagogue, where Kazi was a founding member, and will become the primary Torah scroll to be used regularly throughout the year.
“The Shtiebel” has been providing religious and social services to the young adults in the greater Crown Heights, Brooklyn community for over 5 years and is led by the esteemed Rabbi Chaim Fogelman.
Any additional funds raised over the amount needed for the Torah will go to support The Shtiebel’s ongoing Torah classes and community programs in Kazi’s memory.
