Gruit, the kosher eatery and beer garden in Crown Heights, has completely restructured its menu to serve the community as it recently reopened for takeout after being closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Chef Isaac Bernstein, known for serving “elevated fast food” at the restaurant on Empire Boulevard, has created new, family-friendly, and less expensive menu items that work well for take-out.
Coronavirus hit the Crown Heights community hard, Chef Bernstein recognizes. He said he and his partners, who live in the community, want to serve the people, “and so in order to do that, we needed to make the restaurant more affordable and more accessible to families.”
“We have always been a community-oriented establishment, and we want to make sure residents know that,” Bernstein told COLlive.com on Tuesday.
Bernstein is excited to unveil the new “$8 burger” today, which is made of 4 oz. of premium beef. “We put the same love and care into the $8 dollar burger as we do into our signature burger,” he says. “We have something for everyone.”
The family-friendly menu also includes fire popper chicken nuggets, everything bagel spiced chicken tenders, fried chicken wings with honey sriracha, and more.
“What’s great about our new menu is, there’s something for everyone,” Bernstein says. “Kids will love our burgers and chicken tenders, while if adults want something a little more sophisticated, they can choose from dishes like chicken liver mousse, lamb merguez meatballs, or sliced beef brisket with caramelized onions, beef jus and mashed potatoes,” he says. The menu still offers their original signature burger, grilled premium tuna and fresh salmon, and more.
“We plan to keep the new, less expensive menu available in our outdoor area, even after we fully reopen in the future,” Berstein says. “People should know they can come here for a delicious meal for the whole family.”
Food will be prepared under strict health guidelines. The appetizers, fish, chicken and beef entries, as well as dessert and drinks, are available for curbside pick up or delivery.
Gruit is open for takeout and delivery from 12:30 pm to 10 pm. To order, visit Gruitbk.com
