Yesterday, the 11th of Tishrei, during the ongoing restoration of the cemetery in Lubavitch, a particularly important headstone was discovered. The stone appears to be that of the Tzemach Tzedek’s son in law Reb Shneur, son of Reb Menachem Nahum, the son of the Mitteler Rebbe. Reb Schneur lived in Lubavitch and was buried in the ohel of his holy shver. (Beis Rebi – Chapter 7)
The shliach, Rabbi Gavriel Gordon, who is in charge of the restoration of the holy sites in Lubavitch, said that while only one-third of the tombstone was found, it contains the words “son-in-law of the “Tzemach Tzedek“. (Another son-in-law of the Tzemach Tzedek was Reb, Levi Yitzchok Zalmanson who was buried in Vitebsk).
The cemetery and holy sites restoration project in Lubavitch is under the patronage of Reb Yosef Yitzhak Halevi Popack through the efforts of Reb Menachem Mendel Halevi Levin, and with supervision and assistance of Rabbi Israel Meir Gabay, Oholei Tzadikim and Geder Avos.
It should be noted that the first phase of restoration of the cemetery (including the fencing of the area and the creation of a road and access bridge) was carried out by the ESJF in cooperation with Geder Avos.
