Upwards of 5,000 people from across Michigan descended on the grounds of the Meer Family Friendship Circle in West Bloomfield, sending a river of purple-clad walkers on a five kilometer trek to the local Jewish Community Center.
Sunday’s sixth-annual Walk4Friendship benefitted the founding chapter of the Friendship Circle, an international network of Chabad-Lubavitch run programs that pair teenage volunteers with children with special needs. More than 90 teams participated in the fundraiser and family-fun day, which drew the support of local businesses and U.S. Rep. Gary Peters.
Following an inspirational opening ceremony, walkers took one of two paths – either around the Friendship Circle’s massive campus or to the Jewish Community Center – before heading to a post-walk celebration featuring performances and carnival-style activities.
