Thousands gathered at two levayas held Wednesday evening for victims of the Jersey City shooting.
The funeral for Moshe Hersh Deutsch, 24, was held at the Satmar Bais Medrash on Rodney Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
The funeral for Leah Mindel Ferencz, 33, was held at 127 Martin Luther King Boulevard in Jersey City – mere blocks from where she was murdered in a brutal anti-Semitic attack on the kosher supermarket that she owned with her husband.
Both were to be buried in the New Cemetery in Kiryas Joel, New York, according to New York State Police.
In Jersey City, hundreds braved the cold to say goodbye to Leah Mindel Ferencz at Khal Adas Greenville. There were tears outside the synagogue, which has a yeshiva for children on the second floor.
Mindel and her husband were of the very first to relocate from Williamsburg to Jersey City to establish a Jewish community, due to the high price of housing in Brooklyn.
“She was a caring and nurturing mother for her three children, and at the same time helped her husband who ran the first kosher grocery in the area, to ensure that the community’s families have were to shop and feed their children,” Rabbi David Niederman of the UJO in Williamsburg told YWN.
“A life of selflessness, and dedication to others, full of love, was cut short by vicious hate-filled murders,” Niederman said.
In Williamsburg in Brooklyn, thousands filled a city street for the funeral of Deutsch. The anguished cries of the rabbi could he heard as he led the funeral out on the street.
Deutsch, the United Jewish Organizations’ statement said, was a yeshiva student and the son of UJO board member Abraham Deutsch.
“The community lost a promising, upcoming, charitable person who was spreading love and kindness,” the UJO statement read.
Also killed in the attack were police Detective Joseph Seals, 39, and Douglas Miguel Rodriguez, 49. A visitation for Seals is scheduled for 2pm Monday at McLaughlin Funeral Home in Jersey City, and his funeral service is set for 10pm on Tuesday at St. Aedan’s Church. Services for Rodriguez, a native of Ecuador, have not yet been scheduled.

How can you comfort the yesomim, the parents, husband & siblings? What can be said? May they succeed where everyone else failed, & be the keilim to bring Moshiach.
Jewish blood is once again being spilled in the streets and the media won’t talk about it. De Blasio is garbage.
