Police are investigating a robbery in the Chabad House in the Ecuador capital city of Quito on Sunday.
Chabad Rabbi Tomer Rotem and his family left the center located at #135 Los Cabildos, which is also his home, to visit a Jew living in the suburbs.
After visiting the man, they continued to a barn to supervise Kosher milk for their family and the Chabad House guests.
Their trip ended in despair when they returned to find the center broken into and the rooms a mess.
The thieves ransacked all closets and drawers, emptied out the Tzedaka boxes and stole electronic appliances, the computer, cameras and Mrs. Rivka Rotem‘s jewelery.
“Ecuadorans believe that stealing silver goods brings bad luck, so they didn’t touch our Shabbos candlesticks and other silverware,” she told COL.
In the computer was an extensive list of local Jews are are expecting to get Shmura Matzah, wine and other Pesach products.
