Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch has created an emergency relief fund – Chabad Hurricane Relief – and is coordinating a relief effort on behalf of 29 Shluchim in the NY/NJ area who were affected by Hurricane Sandy.
There remains a critical need for volunteers to assist Shluchim in diverse ways, such as clean-up of Shluchim’s homes, Chabad Centers as well as homes of community members.
In addition, many Shluchim need volunteers to help with food distribution.
There are still thousands of families in the Metropolitan area – many of whom are elderly – that are lacking in basic provisions and have no other source for kosher food.
The Shluchim have indicated that they anticipate that this type of work will continue for several more weeks at a minimum.
“Sandy Help,” a relief/volunteer network, has been instrumental in arranging for hundreds of volunteers to work with the Shluchim and address their various needs.
Merkos has provided the funding for the critical efforts of “Sandy Help” and strongly encourages all those that are able to volunteer their services, to please do so.

They NEED help.
If you have never experienced a flood you cannot fathom the extent of damage. The hurricane is over but it will take months to recover (7 years post Katrina, New Orleans isn’t fully rebuilt).
