The Rebbe’s Library. Our Merit, Our Responsibility.
5 Tevet, 5786 / December 24, 2025
Dear Friend,
Tonight, the 5th of Teves, marks thirty nine years since the historic victory affirming that the Chabad Lubavitch Central Library and Archive is the rightful property of Agudas Chasidei Chabad.
Many vividly remember the tension and uncertainty that gripped the Chabad Lubavitch world as the fate of this priceless collection, painstakingly assembled and safeguarded by seven generations of Rebbeim, rested in the hands of the civil courts.
The overwhelming joy and relief that followed the ruling of the Honorable Judge Charles P. Sifton remain indelibly etched in our collective memory.
In his decision, Judge Sifton underscored the profound significance of the testimony of Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka Schneerson, wife of the Rebbe and daughter of the Previous Rebbe. She stated simply and powerfully, “My father and everything he had belonged to the Chasidim.”
This poignant reflection on the Rebbe/Chosid relationship left a lasting impression on the judge, providing him with the insight necessary to make his ruling.
The library is not a distant institution. It is our shared inheritance, a living repository of our history, our teachings, and our mission.
For that very reason, its care and continuity rest upon us all. Supporting the Rebbe’s Library is a responsibility we carry and a privilege we are granted.
In honor of Hei Teves, Machne Israel Chabad Lubavitch Headquarters is facilitating a crowdfunding campaign dedicated to the ongoing upkeep and preservation of this invaluable treasure.
What more meaningful way to commemorate this day than by taking personal responsibility for the crown jewel of Chabad Lubavitch and ensuring its maintenance, preservation, and future growth. In doing so, we merit to be active partners in safeguarding a legacy that belongs to us all.
