your comments smack of unfitting disrespect.
why knee jerk reaction ?
MAYBE THERE’S NO CONTRADICTION.
can’t it just be that the story actually took place closer to 50 yrs ago w/RDS, and in THIS detail, R.B.’s recollection was vague, and RSC heard & related the story THEN?!

let’s not be so quick at the expense of Achdus.

ANSWER THE QUESTION!

To # 6: If you can answer the question of HOW carlebach could release a tape and CD’s a good TEN – TWELVE years, with the same story, BEFORE shochad ever told it – then I’ll believe you that the story happened with shochad. Until that time, you should refrain from making statements about who is a “rov” and who is not. It just so happens that carlebach was a great talmid chochom and a rov – with extensive knowledge in both nigla and chassidus – his father and his brother were also big rabbonim. Carlebach could run rings around… Read more »

rabbi shochet's story
August 19, 2009 8:44 am

you know not what you speak people. i know for a fact that the story did take place with rabbi shochet from toronto and heard the story many times at their shabbos table in toronto. the priest was from buffalo. i am also privy to more info about the priest and where and who he ended up being when he came back. the miser’s name was yisroel, nicknames yisroel goy by the chevra kadisha since they said he trreated his jewish bretheren like goyim. shlomo k was known for taking other people’s stories. he was a singer not as rav.… Read more »

I heard straight from Shlomo’s O”H mouth that he NEVER sings anyone elses songs except his own. He said “…this is my inyan – I always only sing niggunim and songs that I composed”. (Not so everybody else – they take and adopt his songs and niggunim and viola – they become “something else”) If he (Shlomo O”H) didn’t take other people’s songs – why would he take thier stories?!

GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE!

I too heard this story straight from Shlomo O”H, and according to facts – it would be impossible Shlomo to have told this same story at least 8 or 9 years before it “happened” according to dovid shochat?!
First you take all HIS niggunim and make them “your own”, and now you are taking his stories also?!
You heard a good story, but it didn’t happen with a lubavitcher – so what do you do? You twist and turn it around a little, mix up the facts, throw in the “Rebbe” and then it becomes “holy”!?

OK, Please explain HOW??? Can this same story have been told and recorded on tapes and CD’s TEN or TWELVE years BEFORE it was ever told by shochat?! WOW!!! amazing ruach hakodesh by Shlomo Carlebach!!! He was able to tell a story that wasn’t even told yet by the “true” author – TEN YEARS BEFORE it was ever told!!!! 2.- I don’t know what story you’re talking about – but the story about YOSSELE THE MISER and his grandson who became a priest was YOSSELE and the grandson was named YOSSELE after his grandfather – NOT yisroel. RESEARCH YOUR FACTS… Read more »

you dont have to advertise that you listen to shlomo carlebach but first of all its known that shlomo would take credit for stories that never happend to him
and the true story the mans name was yisroel and was nicknamed yisroel goy and so was ritten on his matzeivah and after the story they rote on his matzeivah yisroel goy kodosh
p.s. dovid shochat is not one to make things up

CORRECTION!!!
August 15, 2009 4:20 pm

The story that you relate from Rabbi Shochat ACTUALLY was told about TEN YEARS before the time that you said it happened – and it was told by Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach. It also happened in TORONTO and not in Buffalo. You also left out a key part of the story – that this galuch had a dream for three nights in a row that his mother & grandfather came to him and told him he is a yid – and he should return to yiddishkeit. He asked them how will I know that Hashem wants me to be a yid… Read more »
