Just one day after the safe return of IDF soldier Ori Megidish, who was held hostage by Hamas in Gaza, it has been revealed that just three days prior, a letter was acquired for her in the ‘Sefer Torah Haklali’ (the Tenth) – a campaign initiated by the Rebbe 42 years ago, during the First Lebanon War, emphasizing the protection and salvation it brings to soldiers whose names are inscribed in the Torah.
Ori’s friend, M., an IDF soldier, registered her name in the Sefer.
She recalls, “We reached the Mount Meron area, and during one of the shifts in the IDF, A Lubavitcher came into the room who asked me and other soldiers if we wanted to add our names to the Torah dedicated to soldiers. I wasn’t a firm believer, and I was even upset about what had happened, especially because Ori Megidish, one of the captives, is a close friend I’ve known since childhood. Nevertheless, even though I didn’t fully understand the significance of composing a Torah, I decided to add her name for added protection. Today, just three days after I asked him to add her name, we received the news that she was freed by the IDF. I am thrilled and moved.”
The registration was performed by Hatomim Levi Ynon ben Shmuel from Tzfat, who traveled with the Greenbaum family from Meron. He registered hundreds of soldiers along with them. According to his account, “The Rebbe spoke very clearly about the importance of inscribing the letters for the benefit of the soldiers. I am glad that we contributed to the rescue of the soldier. I call on all my Chabad brothers, supporters of Chabad, to enlist today and register as many soldiers as possible in the Sefer.”
The ‘Committee for Writing the General Sefer Torah’ is proud to report that within just three weeks, they succeeded in registering 130,000 soldiers and aim to complete the sale of the remaining 174,000 letters within a month. They emphasize that ‘each letter is a shield for another soldier,’ and many other touching stories of miracles are being reported.
