Might have to rethink where I shop
Kind of klein keppeldik as your putting the blame on the store when the state is forcing them to do this. They risk massive fines if they dont do this. get smarter please.
They can afford the fines. Milk is like $10 bucks there
So every time we visit crown heights we need to travel with reusable bags…
Every time you visit Crown Heights you can go shopping in a store that provides plastic bags. Options! No Golus mentality!
Next they’ll need to get rid of all the plastic wrapping that protect the food items from contamination.
Tyranny has no limit
The faster you comply the worse it gets
Will selling food be made illegal too?
The law is probably illegal.
What if the plastic wraps are whats contaminating your food and you are consuming micro-plastics?
What if we all went back to growing our own food and raising our own chickens?
If you get rid of all plastics, then expect the bugs and diseases instead.
I wish there was a simple solution
This is just perfect proof of how ridiculous and warped this city is when there are so many bigger and more important things to worry about they emphasize something as stupid as this! How about them taking care of the gang gangsters that roam the streets attacking people, etc.
In my days we used to call it democracy, but hey, we should all listen to you as our benevolent tyrant
Some areas of Chicago have switched to paper, it’s not as bad as everyone thought. People keep reusable bags in their car or take the paper ones. Boxes are used also. Paper is sometimes annoying since they can rip, but some stores have the gift handle kind of bag and those are fine. Really not a big deal, also noticeably way less plastic bags floating in the trees and street.
What about all the trees being cut down so that you can have your way… live and let live. shame on you
Boy is it a difference if your shopping your groceries home and if your elderly or pregnant
Paper bags do not hold up on the rain, I shopped somewhere where they gave paper bags, there was nothing left of the bags few minutes later
How does that make any sense? It raining and there go you paper bags.
Most of ch doesn’t have cars and if we do we’re definitely not in it when we stop by the grocery on the way home. I’m not starting to carry bags with me when I normally just have my phone. Where will I even put them?
NJ state switched over a few years ago and we got used to reusable bags too. Very importantly though, the reusable bags are also not good for the environment/aren’t going to break down well, and everyone has too many from Walmart+ deliveries and the like.. they didn’t solve the problem!
If our CH United “community activists” that supported these politicians would use their connections they can try to get NYC to stop deliberately targeting Jewish/Kosher supermarkets for some insane liberal go-green regulation that the Dems forced into NY…
“Our friend” Eric Adams can stop this, Adams can also remove the Kingston/Brooklyn Aves ‘protected’ bike lane proposal if he wants to…
Brooklyn Jewish Republican Committee (BklynJewishGOP)
In what way is this targeting Jewish supermarkets?
You obviously aren’t aware of all the Kosher stores that got a hefty summons because of this lunatic plastic bag rule. The next time your local kosher grocery raises their food prices this might be the reason.. You can thank Mr. Adams for saving CH from plastic bags
but is it only kosher stores? maybe all NY stores that are not complying are also getting fined and you are just not aware because you dont shop in non kosher stores
In what way is that TARGETING jewish stores…? just means that 11 kosher stores didn’t comply with the rule…
We’ve been doing this in NJ for several years now. You get used to it.
There’s a reason why many of us aren’t living there
We don’t want to get used being harassed.
We don’t consent.
Koshertown also started this no bag thing.
Yea, which kosher supermarket wants to risk thousands of dollars in fines?? everyone is switching.
I’m used to this rule from L.A.
But its still super annoying that CH didn’t figure out a way to bypass this… if you know what I’m saying…
One word for ya’ll: Florida – land of the free and home of the brave
I am in Miami and shop at stores like whole foods, trader joes and Aldi, there are no plastic bags at any of them.
I reuse them if they’re in good shape for storage or garbage. I’m not so sure the expensive thicker plastic bags are an answer. They can get very dirty sometimes and who has time or energy to wash them out. I’m pretty sure in time we’ll have 2nd thoughts about this.
It’s really inconvenient to shop there now
Most crown heights families reuse plastic bags. Plastic bags are my garbage bags in the bathroom.
And my diaper bags for the really smelly ones
Offer coupons or points to earn bags with purchase.
or offer coupons and points for every purchase without a plastic bag
The difference of cali and NJ is that you drive to your grocery store whereas in CH We tend to walk to grocery stores with strollers, etc. Should we start giving reusable bags in our coat pockets?
carrying them in your strollers? since as you say we are walking around with them
But casier told me u can buy the plastic bags in one of the aisles went I was there thanxs giving time
I find this article hurtful as it shines a negative light on this establishment. Whether we like the law or not, this is the law since 2020. They relaxed the law during covid and reinstated it in 2022. BH they haven’t bothered us for almost 4 years. They are back in full force and are giving out fines to stores that they catch giving out plastic bags. We should be focusing on the struggle store owners have that they are forced to stop giving out plastic bags. The first fine for a store owner is $250 per cash register, the… Read more »
With prices at Marketplace, they can afford the fines.
It’s the most expensive store in Brooklyn, any other community would not support or tolerate a store that rips them off!
It’s time to stand up against prove gauging!
i doubt the stores are happy about it, and it applies to all of them, not just marketplace
what happened to supporting our fellow jew’s business? only when its convenient for us? its not like they are being careless. they held off for 4 years as long as they could
Wait, boxes are a charge also?
Plastic bags are reused for so many things much more than paper bags. The all thing is a hoax!
Don’t believe me? Watch this on BBC:
https://www.bbc.com/reel/video/p07r72xb/why-paper-bags-are-worse-for-the-planet-than-plastic
is it a hoax or small minded – small picture stupidity?
I shop at Whole Foods and they only use paper bags or offer you to buy reusable bags. Aldi doesn’t offer any bags only reusable for purchase.
It reduces waste, and you have plenty alternatives, why is everyone complaining? Most of the modern world is already doing this.
Quite honestly, most of the modern world do alot more crazy things.
No thanks
Because in crown heights, most shoppers that are not having their items delivered are walking home, not driving. You simply can’t carry as much when it’s in paper bags vs plastic bags. You also can’t fit as much under a stroller, and you can’t hang heavy paper bags from stroller clips.
When you have a car, this law is an inconvenience and you get used to it. When you are walking, something as silly as this can literally be the reason you don’t have enough food in the house at one time.
your prob the reason crowh heights is all 1 lane traffic with unsused bike lanes. Tell that to the eltere yid trying to walk his groceries home in the rain using paper bags which disintegrate. Think about others please.
Would prefer it if the focus of this city was on eliminating crime. After that we can talk about shopping bags.
that would be racist, they would never…
What is the problem? Do you want to pay the fine when an inspector comes in?
No
But we are paying the inspector.
Extortion
the inspectors salary is not the same as the fine the store owner pays. the owners have businesses & families to support, just like you. want to help?
The irony is that if you need or want , you can purchase at the counter for $1 or so a pk of 10 plastic bags to carry your shopping. So if the city wants to ban the plastic, why isn’t it a problem to buy them in bulk of 10 and use them? So pathetic.
No reusable plastic bags drinks plus food items absorb the plastics theyre packaged in. Ill support the no plastic bags after drinks and food will be sold in glass and paper at affordable prices . My two cents.
They wouldn’t be charging you so much for the bags…
And the price for the box is outrageous.
And just as a by the way, do you know how much pollution recycling causes…
This is all messed up and just to help keep the liberals happy.
Let me give you a hint… Less pollution than it takes to make plastic from scratch.
And the stores are the ones charging you for bigger bags
That they were that we get to keep the bags… After we ourselves paid for it. Hold on, are there places that charge you and then require you to bring them back to the store or you get charged more.
Do you not understand the point here?
The store is not allowed to give you free bags anymore. The city will fine them.
For the customers convenience, they added shopping bags to their inventory at a low price so that you can still do what you have to do to get your food home. But they can’t take responsibility for those bags, and you can’t just leave extra bags at the register.
This topic is so generational! Like why are we wondering why/ how a store is complying with state law…
The question should be directed at the law, not at the shop. It’s amazing how we change things around like that.
Incorporate Bag G’Mach and let people who need take them. it would be a separate company, that seems to be a good work around. Or a G’Mach giving certificates for redemption for plastic bags
No more shopping at the Market Place for me!!!!!! This is too much!!!!! Doing all my shopping at Empire Kosher!!!!
Empire Kosher will stop giving bags out as well…..
They’ll miss you terribly but somehow, with strength and courage from Hakodosh Baruch Hu, they will prevail and move forward Bigger and Stronger than before the great nisayon you have inflicted on them.
But please please – I BEG of you! – don’t leave Crown Heights. We will NEVER survive without you!!!
take a deep breath everyone and look at the news this morning. Stop whining and thank Hashem you are alive and breathing, still enjoying the life you’ve been given and will be able to shop at all.
Every Store Owner in C.H. can very easily totally bypass this Lunatic Plastic Bag Ban which the Crazy Liberals made up. Every Store Owner who wants more costumers can INDIRECTLY get a “do called volunteer” (so that he’s not officially an employee of the store) to stand outside his store, and give out FREE PLASTIC BAGS to every walk in customer (outside the entrance of the store) The Stupid Idiotic Law is written in such a way, that it only affects the store owner or store employee. The Nutcases who made this retarded law, were not smart enough to restrict… Read more »
