The Check Is In The Mail

It is with great pride that Chasdei Soul II Soul announces the completion of its 2017 fundraiser in support of Crown Heights families sending children with special needs to Jewish schools that provide tailored education for their children.

In the weeks that followed the most anticipated neighborhood concert of the year, Soul II Soul – this year featuring Avraham Fried – every dollar that was collected was carefully attributed toward a child’s education.

“We would like to thank the greater Crown Heights community for stepping up to support our efforts,” said Chasdei Soul II Soul board member Tzirl Goldman. “Year after year, the number of students we need to support with funding grows, so the amount we need to fundraise grows. Once again, our community has heeded our call.”

On May 18, 2017, the Soul II Soul board members, including Tzirl and her husband Shmuly Goldman, Rishe Deitsch, Duddy Farkash – who has recently accepted the title of Executive Director, Yossi Soffer, and Yonit Tanenbaum, gathered for the momentous occasion of writing and signing the checks that were then mailed to the various schools that provide a Jewish education to local children with special needs. It was a proud moment.

“This is my favorite task of the year,” beamed Rishe Deitsch. “I love taking the whole stack of envelopes to the post office to be mailed to the parents. I am fortunate to be part of an important organization and honored to be part of a wonderful community that really cares for one another. Tzirl and Shmuly are an inspiration.”

Let’s take a look at some numbers. After expenses were paid, almost $100,000 went toward special ed tuitions. Last year, 42 children were beneficiaries of Soul II Soul’s education stipend. That number has grown; this year 45 children have benefited. This year, Chasdei Soul II Soul added to their efforts by supporting legal fees incurred by parents in suing the city for the special education their children require.

“With a growing family, baruch Hashem, every expense for our family is carefully monitored,” remarked Dovid P. “This stipend from Chasdei Soul II Soul goes a long way for us. Our Meir is very special to us and with this stipend it no longer feels like his education is breaking our bank account. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the fundraising efforts this year.
