Aliya’s increasingly popular musical Kingston Ave Tefillin booth has attracted lots of attention lately including from local business owners.
One particular business owner, Levi Gombo from “Gombos Bakery”, was so inspired by the young people jamming and wrapping Tefillin on the corner of Crown and Kingston that he asked Aliya to relocate their vibrant sanctuary to his store on President and Kingston.
“He is also providing hot coffee, doughnuts and sandwiches to the ‘Tefillin Wrappers,’ Aliya’s musicians and volunteers that man the booth, says Rabbi Moishe Feiglin, director of Aliya.
Several years ago on one of the coldest days of winter, the Aliya Tefillin booth took on the Teffilin “Mannequin challenge”.
“No one predicted that anyone would roll up their sleeves on Kinston avenue in the arctic temperatures, but we actually hit a record number of Tefillin wraps that day,” says Feiglin.
The Aliya tefillin booth averages 5-10 Tefillin wraps weekly during the 3 hours they stand on Kingston Ave.
Aliya’s main musicians are Alex Hecht, Dovi Feldman, and Yehuda Samotin.
“We look forward to seeing you at 1:30 PM Friday in front of Gombo’s Bakery. Come hungry!” says Feiglin.
