Animal rights activists and their protests won’t be stopping Crown Heights residents and Jews from the New York area from doing kapparos before Yom Kippur 5772.
While it seems like the prices on everything are going up these days, residents will once again be able to save money on the Jewish ritual.
The steep discount was possible thanks to diamond kingpin and philanthropist Moshe Gad, CEO of Almod Diamonds. Joining him in giving to local residents is real estate owner and developer and Crown Heights native, Yossi Popack.
Over the past several years, Gad has made it a personal mission to make kapparos affordable to Crown Heights families, especially those with many children.
The traditional custom of transferring sins, organized by National Committee for Furtherance of Jewish Education (NCFJE), will only cost $5 per chicken.
“These are people that truly understand the predicament that families find themselves in this time of year,” said NCFJE chairman Rabbi Shea Hecht, “we’re really very fortunate that they believe in sharing their blessings with others.”
Amounts are limited and will be available on a first come first served basis, Hecht notified.
