“There are so many basic services that people aren’t aware of,” says a long-time Hamaspik parent from Crown Heights. “For families of children with ASD, special needs, or mental health challenges, services such as ComHab, respite, and financial subsidies are basic necessities.”
Now, getting these services just got easier and more convenient with the opening of Hamaspik’s new Crown Heights location on 930 Eastern Parkway. The office is staffed by a team of Crown Heights locals who intimately understand, and care about, the community’s needs.
“Applying for services may seem overwhelming,” says Sari Gottlieb, HCBS regional manager in Crown Heights. “That’s what we’re here for. We know the system, and we’ll help you navigate the entire process so that you can access services quickly and easily.”
“Many people may not know that they are eligible,” Sari adds. “In fact, Hamaspik services a wide spectrum of clients, from those with more severe disabilities, to hundreds of children in mainstream classes who are struggling with behavioral health challenges or have been diagnosed with very high functioning ASD.”
What type of services can parents receive?
“The most common services are ComHab and respite,” says Sari. “ComHab is one-on-one care with a focus on attaining new skills, while respite is designed to give a much-needed break to families of children with challenges. Most of our one-on-one workers are from the Crown Heights community, and we also offer incredible after-school programs in Boro Park and Williamsburg, with reliable transportation.”
Other transformational services include prevocational training to prepare individuals for future employment, Fiscal Intermediary services for those who want to self-direct an individualized budget, and care management for children with behavioral health challenges. We are also constantly working on expanding our services, to bring even more support and hope to the community
“My son just started going to Hamaspik’s Playhouse Sunday program,” shares a Mom of a 6-year-old. “He came home thrilled, and couldn’t stop talking about his fun day! It was a wonderful break for him and for us.”
“We love what Hamaspik does for us”, summarizes another Crown Heights parent. “It’s an agency with heart. Although we’ve gotten phenomenal services for the last 8 years when care was based in Boro Park, I’m definitely seeing more of a relationship now in the new Crown Heights office — an extra level of understanding of our community’s needs.”
Hamaspik is here for you, with a mission to provide services, support, and hope to people going through challenges so they can live a fulfilling, productive life.
