Crown Heights Comes Together to Celebrate
Diversity and Unity in the Community
One Crown Heights, a coalition that has brought together Black, Jewish, and Caribbean residents of Crown Heights in a unique partnership, will be enjoying a day of fun and entertainment in Brower Park.
The #OneCrownHeights Neighborhood Festival will take place this Sunday, August 21, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. will feature a rapper, Jewish musicians, youth violin duet, Brooklyn Music School choir, a steel pan band and health screenings. Children will enjoy roller skating, stilt walkers, double dutch, arts and crafts, gymnastics and mini golf.
The event is sponsored by a diverse coalition of community leaders, One Crown Heights, that was initiated three decades ago to bridge the cultural differences and highlight our common values and goals in Crown Heights. One Crown Heights has received funding and organizing support from its inception, from The JCRC -NY, in its role as an anchor agency of the Mayor’s Office on the Prevention of Hate Crimes Partners Against the Hate (PATH) initiative.
Partner groups are excited to hold the event, coming together again as a community and engaging in culturally diverse activities, entertainment and resources. This will be the 3rd year of one of our newer initiatives, A Community Conversations Tent: ‘Neighbors to Neighbors, Can We Talk,’ where local residents are invited to engage in discussions in a safe space to hear directly from their neighbors. Community Conversations is sponsored by the American Jewish Committee, (AJC), and facilitated by participating New York City agencies, and One Crown Heights community based organizations and stakeholders.
The event will kick off with the exciting DrumLine Brooklyn United, singer Dovid Pearlman, former member of the Miami Boys Choir, performing music with themes of harmony and community engagement. He will be followed by a lively routine by Tropical Fete Stilt Walkers and Steel Pan performers. Other performers include young violinists duet Buddy and Tal Jackson, Elite Learners Double Dutch, singers Aron Einhorn and rapper Steff Reed. Some of the many activities include the FDNY Smoke House, basketball, Elite Learners double dutch, roller skating, Arts and Crafts tables, resource vendors, health screenings and more. Brooklyn Children’s Museum will be open and free and will be distributing Free tickets to Shakespeer in the Park throughout the day.
