Keren Hachomesh–the fund established by the Rebbe to honor Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka and perpetuate her legacy by supporting causes for Jewish women and girls–completed their second annual online fundraiser, raising upwards of $600,000 thanks to the support of generous matchers and more than 1,400 donors.
The campaign, entitled “Est. by the Rebbe,” marked the Rebbetzin’s 35th yahrzeit and 35 years since the founding of the fund by the Rebbe.
“When the Rebbe directed me, immediately after the Rebbetzin’s funeral and mincha, to establish this organization and chose the name “Keren Hachomesh, the acronym of the Rebbetzin’s name, it was clear how the the Rebbe was channeling his raw pain into a positive communal effort in her loving memory,” said Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky, who the Rebbe appointed as vice president of Keren Hachomesh.
“A great yasher koach is due to all the donors who participated in this campaign, and special thanks are due to the generous matchers, who stepped forward to ensure the success of the campaign.
“Donating to this vital institution of the Rebbe repays the donor not only with the dividends associated with the mitzvah of tzedakah, but also with a heightened level of attachment to the Rebbe and Rebbetzin,” Rabbi Krinsky said.
Special thanks are due to the dedicated group of students from Yeshivah Achei Tmimim of Crown Heights who devoted their time and energy working the phones and ensuring the campaign’s success.
One of the first grant recipients immediately following the Keren Hachomesh campaign was “The Space” in Crown Heights. Keren Hachomesh was made aware of The Space’s own fundraising campaign and allocated the funds needed for “The Space” to complete their own campaign. The Space is a bustling community center, providing interactive programming, a teen lounge for girls and young women, workshops, mentorship opportunities, and more.
“With its strong emphasis on empowering young women and girls, this was a perfect fit for Keren Hachomesh and its stated goals,” says Rabbi Shmaya Krinsky of Keren Hachomesh.
