30 years after his arrival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Shlichus of the Rebbe, Shliach Rabbi Yehoshua Binyomon Goldman marked a milestone event that brought his work full circle.
The event was the naming of a prominent square in the center of the city as “Rebbe of Lubavitch Square” in a beautiful ceremony.
The square is the location where Rabbi Goldman opened the city’s first Chabad Center some 30 years ago.
“This is a street in an upscale area, and for some reason, it had never been given a name,” Rabbi Goldman said.
Goldman reached out to individuals close to the Mayor and suggested the square be named for the Rebbe in honor of his 70th year of leadership.
“The city officials agreed, and with their help, we finalized the project,” Goldman says.
Goldman plans to arrange for the installation of signs in the square about the Sheva Mitzvos Bnei Noach in the future.
To inaugurate the new square, many members of the Jewish community joined with the local Shluchim for a ceremony on Wednesday morning. Children recited the 12 pesukim, and a Chabad supporter who was involved in the project addressed the crowd.
