Chabad Shluchim flying back to the United States from commemorating Chof Av in Kazakhstan were surprised when a fundraiser on their behalf was announced mid-flight accumulating a total of $72,000.
The 24 hour trip to Almaty to mark the Yartzeit of the Rebbe’s father, Rabbi Levi Yitzchok, inspired the travelers to give a special gift to some of their fellow passengers.
During the 14 hour flight back to New York following a day filled with heartfelt davening and inspiring farbrengens, Rabbi Moshe Pinson, president of Bais Shmuel Chabad, asked his fellow travelers to contribute funds so that the 36 Shluchim on board would receive a monetary gift.
20 travelers came forward and pledged donations in honor of Rabbi Levi Yitzchok, in whose merit the Rebbe asks that tzedaka be given on his yartzeit.
Each of the 36 Shluchim on board will be receiving a $2,000 check, Pinson announced on the plane’s loudspeaker.
The gifts will be given through Keren Levi Yitzchok, directed by Rabbi Shmaya Krinsky.

It should be a good beginning
And continue in good health
What a wonderful gesture and how special that the funds are being distributed by a fund the Rebbe himself started and encouraged people to donate to.
Basically a free ticket.
Obviously the ticket was payed for with private funds and the donation was to the Chabad House.
Yes. As shluchim of Rebbe, they deserve it.
Way to go Moshe! Amazing. Very proud of you. Such a terrific tribute to the Rebbes father.
