Dr. Laz & The Sensations performed this past Sunday for the Friendship Circle’s annual family event and Walkathon, which is sponsored by Shluchim Yossi and Nechama Harlig of the Chabad House of Kendall, Florida.
Dr. Laz’s group was a perfect fit for this wonderful event as his band is made up of individuals with profound special needs. His non-verbal students use American Sign Language to communicate and “sing along” with the live music by Dr. Laz. Several of his wheelchair bound students use head and knee switches to operate adaptive drumming and percussion instruments, as well as various lighting effects and even a bubble machine.
“It’s a win-win situation,” Dr. Laz explained. “The band gives our participants an opportunity to shine and, at the same time, the audience sees that these young adults, despite their challenges, are capable of giving to others and making others happy.”
The annual Friendship Circle event also featured all sorts of wonderful family entertainment, including outdoor games, rides, crafts, a barbeque, face painting, and other special activities for the families. More than 600 people attended the event which also featured 3 planes flying overhead tipping their wings to the crowd.
