A Jewish resident of Crown Heights who was stopped by the police for committing a traffic violation on Thursday had a chossid coming to his defense.
As the cop was writing up the ticket, long-time activist R’ Israel Shemtov approached the police car and began chatting with the officers.
“The Red Devil,” a title Shemtov proudly recognizes for his effort in securing the safety of Jews in the neighborhood back in the day, tried explaining that he will make sure the Jewish driver won’t repeat what he had done.
Although he wasn’t successful in his effort, the driver was deeply touched by the appearance of his would-be ‘guardian angel.’

What difference does it make, that is a lame excuse, fact is you ran a red, didnt wear a seatbelt, or spoke on your cell while driving, all things that is punishable. or maybe you agree with Al Sharpton that as a minority you are being picked on

I agree. I’ve been stopped for red light (it was yellow BTW) & talking on my cell (guilty as charged.) I fought the red light & paid up for the cell. Surprisingly, the police officers were very polite & pleasant, even apologetic (must have been good donuts that day!)
While I would do the same as Yisroel Shemtov (& I have!) there really isn’t too much point, except it makes us feel like we are part of a community & SOMEBODY cares.
Mr. Driver: don’t buck the system next time. It isn’t worth it!
but listen, if the guy who got pulled over ran a red light or something, i hate to tell you, but dont complain!

Because you are jewish you shouldn’t get a fine? Because that it what causes anti-semitism, and is a chilul hashem to boot. Anybody regardless of race or religion should pay for their actions.
