The 21st annual Kinus HaMechanchim of the Merkos Chinuch Office will concentrate of how to assist the mosdos and the melamdim actualize and be successful at the social and emotional wellbeing of their students.
Chinuch Chabad has always been sensitive to the social and psychological well being of the learners. Klolei Hachinuch V’hahadrocho is replete with instructions about the obligation of the “madrich” (loosely translated: educational guide) to understand the emotional needs of every student. Expectations should naturally vary, though demands and responsibility should not be compromised. This is the way it was since the founding of Tomchei Temimim in Lubavitch.
While the times and circumstances have changed, the underlying philosophic principles have not and it underscores the awesome responsibility of melamdim and teachers, and of parents as well.
Rabbi Dr. Hershel Fried the internationally famous mechanech and psychologist, will present a new approach to help melamdim in the sensitivity to social and emotional learning which is specifically geared to our mosdos and mechanchim and is based up divrei chazal and Chassidus. He will be making two presentations on the topic.
Rabbi Dr. Yoseph Yitzchok Shagalow a noted Chassidic psychologist residing in Minnesota, is preparing a number presentations on the subject of a mechanech’s role in recognizing and dealing with students who learn differently. How to recognize a learning disfunction as distinct from typical difficulty in understanding or concentration and the social and emotional needs they bring with them.
In addition to the professional presentations, there will be a series of mechanchim generated sessions to include: professional exchanges, presentation of best practices and novel ideas that our mechanchim use in their classrooms.
“The issue is of course not a new one but the problems related to it have been exacerbated by the recent turmoil resulting from the pandemic’ said Rabbi Nochem Kaplan, director of the Merkos Chinuch Office ‘but it is our responsibility to help all melamdim and teachers maximize their effectiveness” This appears to be the call of the hour and our mosdos and mechanchim respond accordingly.
