The season’s first major snowstorm began walloping New York City on Wednesday afternoon, with heavy snow and wind pounding the area.
Winter Storm Gail pounded the city as temperatures dropped to 27 degrees with frigid sustained winds, followed by a period of hail later in the evening.
The powerful storm is expected to taper off around noon Thursday, the AccuWeather forecast said.
While temperatures will rise slightly to the low 30s, “It’s still going to feel very cold — more like the teens — for the next few day,” they said.
With conditions treacherous due to the snowfall, some Crown Heights schools will be closed on Thursday.
Both Oholei Torah and Lubavitch Yeshiva of Crown Street are closed for Preschool and Pre 1-A classes.
Grades 1 through 8 will begin at 9:00 a.m., and transportation will not be provided.
Bais Rivkah informed parents that due to the inclement weather, school will be closed tomorrow for all grades.
