Dark smoke rising from a maintenance hole on the otherwise busy corner of Kingston Avenue and President Street in Crown Heights has brought traffic to stop.
Firefighters were on the scene on Wednesday after receiving reports of smoke and have asked police for assistance with crowd control.
Firefighters advise multiple transformers in the area have been blown out and are on fire.
Officers report power outages in two nearby buildings and both are being evacuated, Citizen reported.
Located on that corner is the 1414 dormitory of the Central Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch – 770.
