A new Torah was welcomed in the Chabad shul Beis Aryeh in the Israeli city of Lod dedicated to the late chossid R’ Avrohom Skoblo OBM.
The Torah was donated by his children R’ Yitzchok Skoblo and R’ Leib Skoblo of Crown Heights and Mrs. Feiga Bronfman to mark a year since his passing.
Lod’s rabbis, bochurim of the Tomchei Tmimim Yeshiva and residents greeted the Torah in song and dance from his home to the shul.
Speaking at the seudas mitzvah following the hakafos was Rabbi Baruch Yurkowitz, the Mashpia Rabbi Nochum Kaplan, Skoblo’s son-in-law Rabbi Moshe Bronfman and grandson R’ Menachem Mendel Bronfman.
R’ Avrohom Skoblo OBM, whose bris the Rebbe attended in the Russian city of Rostov, once related:
“When I came of draft age, my father (R’ Zalman Skoblo) told me to lift heavy things in order to cause a hernia. I was not drafted but a short while later the war broke out and everybody was drafted into that terrible war.
“It looked as though the Soviet Union would be defeated. My father accompanied me to the train. We had to go forty kilometers and on the way he said to me: Tonight, my mother a”h came to me in a dream and asked me what is happening in the world.
“I said that a world war had begun. She asked: What connection does it have with you? I said: My son Avrohom is drafted. She said: You should know that he will be wounded but he will come back alive.
“And that is what happened. When I was on the outskirts of Berlin, I was wounded by a bullet in my hand but I returned home in good health.”
