We are taught to show hakaras hatov. We are incredibly fortunate to finally live in a country that lets us be us. How many centuries did Jews suffer at the hands of our host nations? Finally, at the dawn of the 1900’s, Jews started to arrive in the land of the free, America.
Superstar singer Yaakov Shwekey has just released a song of thanks, a song of love, an ode to America.
His new single, titled “We Love America” highlights all the things that have made this country great, and made it possible for us to be free from religious oppression. A nation of immigrants, from different lands, where people can coexist in peace.
President Donald Trump recently visited Deal, NJ, where Shwekey resides. In an effort to honor our President before he came, Shwekey released this song.
When COLlive spoke with Shwekey he told us, “In honor of the visit of US President Donald J. Trump to Deal, we were asked to create a special song. Taking an old classic, we adapted the lyrics to fit the moment, paying tribute to our glorious country and its great leaders.”
The song, composed by Yitzy Waldner with lyrics by Yisroel Besser and recorded by the now legendary PlayMasters studio.
“We have been able to grow, to open flourishing yeshivas, mikvahs, shuls, we are only limited by our own minds the heights we can soar as Jews in America,” Shwekey said.
Shwekey finished our call by saying, “I personally feel like it’s an obligation for us as Jews to have gratitude to America for giving us the freedom to practice our religion and have our synagogues to pray.“
It’s truly an amazing thing, which we should never take for granted. So as Shwekey sings, “To stand strong, We love America, We love America. May G-d, hear our prayer, sing it loud and clear, cause we love America!

If anyone cares about America, its values and Jewish life – they would not support Trump. I certainly believe everyone is entitled to their opinion, including Shwekey, but a public singer shouldn’t be turning things political. Are the Democrats any better then? Give me one value that they portray that is anything close to a Jewish value. I respect your opinions, but I believe they are flawed in many ways. Respect, honesty and care for people other than yourselves are values that Trump doesn’t have, Biden does. Thanks for responding. Please read my response as it is important to have these conversations. Trump supports the mask wearing. If you don’t remember, the beginning months of the pandemic, the CDC warned against using masks. You can argue that was a move to protect Doctors, but still a lie nontheless, which probably cost lives. If Trump would’ve worn the mask then, he would’ve been bashed by the left and their cronies. Interesting to note: not all frum Jews support him. It’s by far the more chareidi,the more support; the less chareidi (educated, professional and very frum, pro-Zionist) who mostly don’t support him.
With regards to mail-in voting vs. protests: Mail-in voting has been used (in some form or another) since the Civil War with no evidence of fraud. Protest is a right that’s provided by the First Amendment, so while it may not be commendable in a time of a pandemic, it is definitely legal, and the right to do so should be encouraged (take a look at the lock-down rules in Israel and other free societies which contain similar provisions.
