Today, many people use the word “Zionist” simply to mean someone who supports Israel. But if Zionism began as a movement meant to replace Torah and traditional Judaism, should a Lubavitcher publicly identify with that label anyway? Can you fully support Eretz Yisroel and the Jewish people without calling yourself a Zionist?
Answer by Rabbi Yosef Katzman, an acclaimed public lecturer, who was born and raised in Crown Heights at the court of the Rebbe. Rabbi Katzman initiated many Jewish outreach projects and founded “A Cable to Jewish Life” television show. His current passion are the teachings of Hayom Yom.

Chabad doesn’t believe in labels… so we don’t need to call ourselves anything.
We follow the Rebbe’s lead.
As Menachem Begin said ‘there’s no greater lover of the Jewish people and the land of Israel than the Rebbe.’
Moshiach Now!
Please note the nuanced difference between Land of Israel and the State of Israel.
The original Zionist idea is finished.
The real question is if I can answer that I am a Religious Zionist (Daati Leumi) or Chareidi Leumi/Chardal. In essence Lubavitchers theologically subscribe to one of these two Zionist groupings.
Not true at all. Maybe you should make a better research.
Not smart
It’s not the right time to discuss these irrelevant topics
We are not Neturei Karta either. Rebbe spent hours talking about Israel, issues like Shleimos Haaretz, influencing Israeli Politicians and Military officials. Currently Zionist Congress majority are frum people with president of Congress is kipa sruga Rabbi.
Definition of Zionist is someone who wants to return to Zion ( Temple) not someone who is against Torah Chas VeShalom.
We should stop fighting old wars. Reality is we never had in history so many Jews learningv in Yeshivos and Kolelim because of Israel. Majority of Torah Learning now done in Hebrew Language. And majority of Jews now live in Israel
Chabad believes what the Rebbe believes the Rebbe is not a Zionist = chabad is not Zionist yet at the same time (as the rabbi says in the video) we need to support eretz Yisrael and we do because that’s what the rebbe wants
Rebbe always looked for ways to unite Jews not how we different.
All he said was as a Lubavitcher you can’t call yourself a Zionist because Zionism means a certain thing but he said we should 100% support eretz Yisrael
Getting clarity in today’s world is always relevant. Even more so to not subscribe by mistake to something that goes against what we believe and we fight for
Ridiculous. That was a rather ill-informed, selective elevator pitch of the Zionist movement.
More in line with historical facts, Zionism was a movement to create a safe haven for Jewish people, in part due to the persecution of Jews around the world. Some people were motivated religiously, and some were not.
Zionism itself wasn’t one single idea, but for almost everybody, it was about safety, self-determination, and a persecuted people reestablishing a state in their ancestral homeland.
“Self determination” is the problem why do you think the Rebbeim are against Zionism
It’s always easy to jettison nuance, pick the stream you vehemently disagree with and fight that idea tooth and nail.
