Members of the Shmira volunteer security-patrol group in Crown Heights received a citation from U.S. Congresswoman Yvette Clarke this week.
The honor was given to them for the wild chase they led in March to catch a violent perpetrator wanted for crashing into multiple vehicles and pedestrians.
Shmira volunteers chased the man, who had been driving while intoxicated, leading him to drop a fully loaded gun on the sidewalk, and thereby saving lives.
The man was placed under arrest and was being charged with a slew of charges, including driving under the influence and possession of a firearm, a police source said.
The volunteers rewarded by Congresswoman Clarke and the New York Police Department 71st Precinct were Menachem Mendel Sorkin, Noam Wolffe, Avraham Abba Prager and Meir Guigue.
The congressional citations were presented to them during the monthly 71st Precinct Community meeting.
Keep up the great work guys! #Chovevei
