A wild chase up Troy Avenue in Crown Heights Friday led to a surprising discovery for Shmira volunteers who chased a violent perpetrator wanted for crashing into multiple vehicles and pedestrians.
At approximately 2:25pm Friday afternoon, Shmira received multiple hotline calls from witnesses observing the perpetrator crash into cars and drive on the sidewalk near President St and Troy Ave.
As the perpetrator noticed the Shmira volunteers arriving at the scene, he abandoned his vehicle and began to flee on Eastern Parkway towards Schenectady Avenue.
Shmira volunteers chased the man, who had been driving while intoxicated, and while chasing him down the street, the man suddenly dropped a fully loaded gun on the sidewalk, which was immediately secured by a Shmira member.
When he reached Eastern Parkway, an off-duty Federal Officer tackled him, and held him down with the help of patrol volunteers until the police arrived.
The man was placed under arrest and is being charged with a slew of charges, including driving under the influence and possession of a firearm, a police source said.
Please be aware of your surroundings at all times. In case of any emergency, do not hesitate to call Shmira 24/7 at 718-221-0303 and 911.
