Message from Crown Heights Shmira
Crown Heights Shmira has used security footage for years to assist in tracking down criminals but we need your help.
Shmira currently has a database of cameras in Crown Heights but we would like to expand our program.
Shmira having access to multiple cameras on different blocks has enabled the organization to link multiple crimes to the same perpetrator, enabling us to get higher charges against that perpetrator.
If you have a camera system at your home or business, even if you think you don’t have the best camera or angle, please consider signing up.
If you have any questions, you can call us at 718-221-0303 or send us an email at [email protected]
P.S. If you need assistance with your camera system (i.e. if it’s not working), send us an email – we may be able to help you.
Also, if you’re in an area or intersection with little to no camera surveillance, we may be able to help you set it up.

So they’re caught. Then what?
The more charges they can get on a person the less likely he is to be able to get out if he’s caught stealing one package he will be out right away if he gets charged for enough things it’ll take a lot longer for him to get out
Stop being a sour pickle. Just because there is a problem with the system, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do things to improve the situation even a little bit. Cameras will help them catch more criminals. Yes, even that is an improvement over not catching them at all. You can’t deny that. Even if this initiative will prevent just one more yid from being attacked, it’s worth it and it deserves everyone’s support. It’s people like you who are always complaining that there is only bad news, and when they see good news, they don’t even acknowledge the goodness in it,… Read more »
I believe this is a beautiful project and everyone should get involved!
We must put an end to these package thef.
Long over due
Cameras are a waste of money. Even if they identify the criminal the police are too lazy to go out and catch them. Even if arrested they are let out within minutes. Better use the money to feed the poor.
More cameras help keep the community safe. When I clicked on the article, I expected Shmira to be requesting funds to purchase and set up additional security cameras.
