A new survey shows many members of Congress are skipping out on holding town hall meetings this summer, but that’s not the case with Republican Senator John McCain.
The Senator of Arizona made an appearance Tuesday in Goodyear City Court for a town hall meeting. Facing a mildly hostile crowd he ended the meeting after just one hour.
The face of a frustrated eyed McCain didn’t last too long until Rabbi Berel Zaklikofsky, the new Chabad Shliach to Goodyear, approached him.
With a friendly pat on the shoulder, Zaklikofsky told him: “Thank you for your support for Israel and the Jewish Community here in Arizona. We thank you for your service.”
The Senator responded with a big smile: “Your very welcome rabbi, Shalom Shabbat.”
Rabbi Zaklikofsky informed the Senator that he and his wife just opened the 16th Chabad center in the Grand Canyon State, under the leadership of Rabbi Zalman Levertov.
At the town hall meeting, Goodyear Mayor Georgia Lord congratulated Zaklikofsky on being featured in an article this past week in the local newspaper about his plans to service the local Jewish community.
Mayor Lord took keen interest in how things are picking up at Chabad Goodyear and requested to be updated on future events.
