After 20 years of candle burning including raising a family and running Our Big Kitchen in Bondi, Rabbi Dovid Slavin has been conferred with a PhD at the University of Sydney.
His family watched as the newly-named Rabbi Doctor Dovid Slavin received his honour. Also on hand was Professor Suzanne Rutland who supervised Rabbi Slavin following the retirement of Professor Alan Crown in 1997.
Rabbi Doctor Slavin started his 20-yr journey under the late Professor Alan Crown. He completed his PhD thesis on the educational contribution made to Judaism by Rabbi Meir Shapiro of the Lublin Yeshiva in Poland under the supervision of Professor Suzanne Rutland.
“I am extremely proud of him,” Professor Rutland told J-Wire. “This is an amazing achievement especially when one considers that at the outset he had never received a secular education and had never studied English. He was examined at the highest level and all the examiners were international.”
May there be more like him!
What an amazing achievment!!
This is such a kiddush Hashem.
This Phd is significant and special however it pales in comparicent to Rabbi Slavin and his wife Leah’s achievements with Our Big Kitchen. There is no doubt that their Moisad will be used as a model in the future for Chabad houses and Jewish organizations. Keep up the amazing work.

This is great, but it would be even better if someone could write a Ph.d about the impacts Rabbi Slavin and Rabbi Feldman have made on yiddishkeit in Sydney!

Dear Rabbi Slavin,
Is translating your work to Hebrew (Loshon Kodesh), in the works?
