Shliach is Cool About Award

Ashdod has awarded the Head Shliach of its city, Rabbi Shneur Goodman as one of its 12 outstanding volunteers of the year.

The award was given to him by Mayor Yechiel Lasry during a large ceremony on Wednesday attended by the city’s government and civic leaders.

“In 1976 Rabbi Goodman was sent to Israel by the Rebbe of Lubavitch as part of a group of 30 men, women and children,” the emcee Dan Kanar told the crowd.

“In the summer of 1981, Rabbi Goodman arrived in Ashdod with the blessing of the Rebbe and since then has served as the CEO of the Chabad institutions in the city.

He said Rabbi Goodman “is fully immersed in building and managing educational and humanitarian institutions. He built a soup kitchen that feeds warms meals to families and the needy… with happiness, patience, a smile and without expecting anything in return.”

Asked how he felt about being honored, Rabbi Goodman said: “I wasn’t too thrilled about this personally…”

He explained that “I received this award as a private person but I see it as if it was given to Chabad for its great contribution to the public in Ashdod.”

He thanked the Colel Chabad organization for supporting many of Chabad Ashdod’s activities, including the soup kitchen.
