“Im yirtzeh Hashem he will print Lubavitcher Seforim,” said the Rebbe about Rabbi Moshe Weiss, Shliach to Sherman Oaks, CA. Wednesday night, in honor of his son’s wedding, he did just that.
When Rabbi Moshe Weiss, the father of the Chosson, was just four years old, the Rebbe gifted his father, Reb Berel Weiss a”h a Siddur for his son. For a number of reasons, Reb Berel decided it wasn’t the right time to give his son the Siddur.
Sometime after that, young Moshe asked his teacher for a pen and paper. “I’m a Lubavitcher. I want to write a Lubavitcher Siddur,” he said. If he wasn’t old enough to use the Rebbe’s Siddur itself, at least he would copy some paragraphs from it.
When Reb Berel told the Rebbe this story, the Rebbe smiled and said “er vet im yirtzeh hashem druken Lubavitcher Seforim” – G-d willing, he will print Lubavitcher books.
Indeed, about 25 years later, Rabbi Weiss merited to sponsor the first Sefer that had the Rebbe’s name: Toras Menachem – Tiferes Levi Yitzchak (the Rebbe’s commentary on his father’s writings). Since then, together with his wife Rebbetzin Ruty Weiss, he has spearheaded the publication of many a Lubavitcher Sefer.
This past Tuesday night, hundreds gathered in Long Island to celebrate the wedding of Rabbi Weiss’ son, Yona Weiss, to Bella Sandman. And Rabbi Weiss delivered on the Rebbe’s promise yet again.
At the Seudas Mitzvah, all the guests were greeted with a number of mementos – newly printed Seforim:
• A pocket size edition of the acclaimed Weiss Siddur, with an interpolated, easy-to-read translation of weekday and Shabbos davening (published by Kehos).
• A new volume of the Alter Rebbe’s Shluchan Aruch in English (published by SIE) – Yoreh Deah.
• A Teshura containing newly published English letters of the Rebbe, from Rabbi Weiss’ personal collection.
• A pamphlet about the Rebbe’s encouragement to make Siyumei Harambam.
• The crown jewel of the evening – the 2-volume set of “Otzar Hamelech”, compiling thousands of the Rebbe’s explanations on the entire Rambam (also published under the auspices of Kehos).
This monumental work was compiled by one of the associate Shluchim in Sherman Oaks, Rabbi Yossi Lipskier, and has been in the making for a number of years.
Throughout the dancing and the festive wedding meal, prominent Rabbonim, Roshei Yeshiva and members of anash could be seen perusing the pages of the new books and discussing their tremendous value.

More copies of the Sefer will be available for sale at the upcoming Siyum Harambam Haolami, which will be held on Sunday at the Armory.
