Just in time for Chol Hamoed, Toveedo.com released a new 3-D animated video telling the story of Shimshon, the last of the shoftim of the ancient Israelites who was known for his mighty physical strength.
While the life story Shimshon is already a compelling tale, bringing the story to film takes on a whole new meaning. The incredible imagery brings the story of Shimshon to life as never seen before.
What started out many years ago as a dream has finally become a reality. Close to five years ago the idea to create videos featuring stories from Tanach was just a dream of producer Chaim Hershkowitz.
It was at the Annual Chabad on Campus Convention in Connecticut when he met his friend Rabbi Yisroel Bernath, Director of Chabad of NDG in Montreal, Canada. The two of them discussed collaborating on a new film. It was just a few years after Bernath and his writing partner from Montreal, Zvi Hershcovich began writing “Young Abraham” and they were eager to take on the challenge.
Hershcovich threw himself into the research and writing, and together the three of them worked diligently and meticulously to come up with a script that would be both exciting and engaging.
Relearning the story of Shimshon to get all the details correct took a tremendous amount of time and patience, but with a project this large, no mistakes could be made, they told COLlive.com.
Hershcovich and Bernath then gathered a group of talented friends (including Avi Tansky, Levi Goldstein, and Emanuela Reznik) to record the vocals in Montreal, where they are both on Shlichus. They spent months crafting and engineering an engaging and enchanting audio.
The next steps of production included designing and building characters and a 3D world that would be top-notch for children today. It’s almost hard to believe but everything came together so perfectly.
Since the cost of making 3-D animation is so expensive the project sat around for a long time until recently, when it was dusted off and put into production. It was sitting for so long that the kids who narrated the script are now older bochurim.
“We pushed really hard to have Part One ready for Chol Hamoed so that the children can enjoy it,” says Chaim Hershkowitz of Toveedo. “I think they will be amazed at the level of 3D animation. Together with the story writing and voice talent it truly makes for a fascinating experience.”
“Shimshon – Part 1,” which runs 28 minutes, is now available exclusively on Toveedo.com.
