At least seven Lubavitcher bochurim who returned from their year in Kvutza at the Central Chabad Yeshiva in New York were detained today, Wednesday, upon arrival at Ben Gurion Airport in Israel.
Some of those detained serve as shluchim in various Chabad Yeshivos.
After the intervention of attorneys, several were released following questioning, while others were transferred to custody.
In some cases, parents who had not seen their sons for over a year were waiting at the airport. They were allowed to receive their sons’ luggage and personal belongings, and to “say goodbye” once again as their sons were taken away for detention.
This is part of a growing phenomenon of arrests of yeshiva students who have not yet settled their military status. According to reports, additional arrests may occur in the coming days.
In recent weeks, similar arrests have taken place. Some of those arrested have already been brought to trial, with verdicts expected soon.
They broke the rules
When they went to kvutza, they had a status that enabled it.
In the meanwhile, the rules changed, and the kvutza agreement (thatenabled bachurim to postpone the draft to after kvutza) is not recognized by the shiltonot anymore.

Sometimes you can strike a deal to draft immediately without further punishment but that might require “protectzia”. You need a connection with someone that can vouch for you.
The problem is, its difficult to get that now since everyone is trying to get that connection.
Just serve and stop lying that you have mental illness and you wont spend a day in jail.
If someone had lied to avoid the draft, they would likely have been disqualified from service and not arrested. The fact that they were arrested suggests they did not lie and were considered fit for duty.

It has to do I think with the fact that some stay long-term in Israel and, in theory, may be required to settle something in regards to their military status. Not necessarily that they have to serve, but maybe they didn’t properly fill out certain paperwork?

Why not enlist yourself in the army?

The real reason this is happening is because the high court ruled that everyone needs to be treated equally, despite the government trying to exempt frum people. The government doesn’t have a choice.
Also 1000 weren’t sent home, which is a significant amount. And the ones where were sent home may have been recalled after training the earlier groups was completed.
They make big deals when the frum boys don’t enlist. Do you know how many boys in Tel Aviv and surrounding places, especially from the left leaning circles, don’t enlist. Almost no one talks about this.
But that doesn’t mean frum guys should buck the system. Let the chilonim face the consequences, we have enough problems without making a chilul Hashem and running away.

The army has created many roles that will not infringe on religious observance. This has been shown and proven by the many Chabad/Orthodox men and women who honorably serve and pay their dues.
I have friends in the army that were promised xyz as frum people, but the “things” changed, and they were assigned to mixed units, with Rabanut barely kosher (if kosher food), had to fight for mehadrin food, and wait a month until it finally got approved, fact is that the IDF was established on anti religion, and it’s entire foundation is anti religion, read it up for yourself.
This has got nothing to do with religion, purely just hate for frum people.

The USA does not have compulsory military service. If it did, then yes.

I think that BH Israel has enough soldiers in the army and especially now where the war is basically over there’s no reason to go after Yeshiva Bochurim…

So if they do not count, certainly the chilonim are not religious nor those in between. No remnant majority can be compiled of the excluded.

This is basically a deliberate effort by the judicial system led by Israel’s AG, to cause social tension for the purpose of toppling the government. Yes, the draft should be extended. Religious people should be serving if they are not studying, and frankly, I personally do not think that studying should be an exemption. Using the law to discriminate against certain sects of people is immoral and the opposite of a functioning democracy. Th AG is trying real hard to stir up infighting amongst the parties that make of the government in order to hasten its demise. the old pictures of bochurim in Israel showed them in their uniforms black pants white shirts (short sleeves) hats and tefilin and latkes and menorahs. and even digging trenches in times of war.

i certainly wouldn’t want to serve in an army or have my kids serve. sure, it’s an obligation if the government in the land i live requires it. doesn’t make it something i’d want. part of the ugliness of our reality

An army with women in is against Torah. They don’t keep their promises to the Charedi units. Either because they truly don’t understand what it means to live a life according to the Shluchan Aruch, or (more likely) because they are trying to purposely corrupt them so that they will no longer be frum. They can’t comprehend that Charedim would rather die than serve in a mixed, secular army
