The eleven new students at Tzohar Seminary were in their third week of school when tragedy hit at the nearby Tree of Life Synagogue.
That Motzei Shabbos as they gathered for a Melave Malka, each student lit a candle and dedicated their year of learning and growth in memory of one of the eleven victims.
The Tzohar students, still new to Pittsburgh, have experienced the city and the neighborhood of Squirrel Hill through a lens of unity and strength in the face of terror and darkness. They heard the city’s mayor, dignitaries, clergy and visitors come together to give strength and share words of love.
Last week the Tzohar students baked challah and went out to do mivtzoyim, asking people to light Shabbos candles in memory of one of the eleven martyrs.
Tzohar students study filmmaking, and they applied their new skills by filming and editing a video honoring the kedoshim.
