200 people attended the Lubavitch Purim Celebration and 42nd anniversary Concert and Dinner last Thursday in Glasgow, Scotland.
Bookings for the event closed three weeks before Purim and on the night there was a waiting list of 30 people.
Stars of the night were Sholom Jacobs, son of Rabbi and Mrs. Chaim Jacobs, his 8 year old son Shmuel, Russian violinist Lev Atlas, and the Taste of Honey Trio from London.
Everyone present enjoyed the electric atmosphere of the evening, with much clapping, singing and dancing together with a superb three course gourmet meal catered by L’Chaim’s Kosher Catering and entirely organized by Mrs. Sora Jacobs, Lubavitch shlucha in Glasgow. Food and wine was flowing freely and everyone had a great time. Tickets for the event were priced at a very nominal fee to enable as many people in the community to attend and enjoy the event.
The event was subsidized by a very generous donation of £3,000 from the Sholom and Pessy Charitable Foundation to cover the entertainment, lighting and sound equipment and part of the meal.
During the evening a very special ‘Chessed Award’ presentation was made to Malcolm Livingstone by Rabbi and Mrs. Chaim Jacobs in appreciation of the generous and constant support of Mr. Livingstone and family to Lubavitch and all his tremendous charitable work on behalf of the entire Glasgow Jewish community. Malcolm was always there to sort out the problems in the community and often acted on them before people knew about them. Rabbi Jacobs referred to him as the G-dfather of our community and said this award was well deserved.
Numerous people have already requested tickets for the next Lubavitch Purim Concert which has been arranged for next Purim on Sunday 24th February 2013.
During Purim Lubavitch and Lubavitch Shul in the Park Shul visited close to 400 families to deliver Mishloach Monos, and Shul in the Park joined with the residents of Barrland Court by night and day to read the Megila which was read by Rabbi Jacobs.
