A group of Lubavitch girls were granted a rare tour of the Lenin Library in Moscow Tuesday, where the Schneerson collection is held.
Students of the Chabad seminary viewed a large anthology of Jewish manuscripts and texts of the Chabad Lubavitch community.
They were accompanied by Rabbi Yitzchok Kogan, leader of the Bolshaya Bronnaya Synagogue in Moscow and member of Agudas Chassidei Chabad of Russia, which is fighting to return these books to their rightful owners.
The collection has been held for decades in the Russian State Library and Russian Military Archives.
One portion of the Schneerson Collection was seized in Russia during the Bolshevik Revolution. The other part was confiscated by the Nazis in Poland and carted off by the Soviet Army at the end of World War II.
On April 6, 2005, the Helsinki Commission held a hearing on this issue entitled “The Schneerson Collection and Historical Justice.”
One of the visitors this week told COLlive that the books, which were held in “terrible condition” are now on display and were numbered.
They were told that Russian citizens and tourists are permitted to sign up for the library and learn from each of the tens of thousands of books of the Schneerson Collection.

I agree with you! It’s a big truth regardless of the way of reading it- from its beginning or backwards- and the souls would be freed too!

wow! thank you for bringing this to us – yet we wish even more now than ever for their true redemption!!!
also, we are so quick to criticize when pictures that we dont like go up on the site – i think its important to commend collive for putting up the pics of the seforim and no girls (who are mentioned to been there touring the library when the pictures were taken) keep up the great work!!!
They’re not “on display.” They’re in prison.
Yes!
oh no! srsly?
if only people actually cared for what the rabbeim wanted, then we would have had them back long ago… the problem is when ego gets involved… so rabbies dont want the books back, becase they might lose their possition…
it happens time and time again.. maybe its about time to actually start practicing what those books preach, BITUL… not everything needs to be exactly as you want… maybe we should actually take to heart what happened to rabbi akiva’s students… maybe then the russian rabbis will help get these seforim [my seforim…] back
