The Satmar Rebbe R’ Aharon Teitelbaum was greeted by Chabad of the Airport at JFK as he departed for a 2-day visit to Israel today, during which he will visit Meron.
After checking in, the Satmar Rebbe was shown the Tefillin booth run by Chabad of the Airport, and the bochurim in attendance related to him that hundreds pass by the booth every day, and dozens of people put on Tefillin there daily – including many “Karkaftas” who have never put on Tefillin before.
The Satmar Rebbe gave the staff many brachos for much success “in their holy work.”
“He was very happy to see the booth which leaves a lasting impression of Yiddishkeit for the many who pass by,” one of the bochurim in attendance told COLlive.
He then davened Mincha in the Shul.
The Satmar Rebbe was then presented with the Kovetz Chof Ches Sivan, which the Rebbe distributed on the 50th anniversary of the day when the miracle took place. The bochurim related that today is the “Yom Hatzalah,” the day the Rebbe and Rebbetzin arrived from war torn Europe in the United States.
The Rebbe explains in the Kovetz that when the Rebbe came to the US, is when the Frierdiker Rebbe appointed the Rebbe in charge of the Mosdos, and was the time when hafatzas Hamayonis began to truly spread.
The Satmar Rebbe then said he is a grandson of the Baal Hatanya, and said that he would be learning the Kovetz while on the plane.
The achdus among klal Yisroel is clearly increasing daily. May this be a merit for us to receive and greet Moshiach now

Is the satmar Rebbe really a descendant of the alter Rebbe? I never heard that before. If yes, please explain how?

Through the Hornistopoler Rebbe who was a grandson of the Mitteler Rebbe. The present Satmar Rebbes are grandsons of the Ratzferter Rebbe ( Halberstam) who in turn was a grandson of the Hornistopoler Rebbe ( Twersky). I hope this is not too confusing.
