Satmar’s “Aronim” faction has endorsed incumbent Governor Kathy Hochul in the New York governor’s race.
Other key Chasidic groups are endorsing Republican Lee Zeldin for governor, as polls indicate the race is increasingly tight ahead of the final day of voting on Nov. 8.
Support from the Brooklyn-based Bobov, Bobov-45, Belz, and the Crown Heights United PAC, could lead to thousands of additional votes for Zeldin as he pushes for a historic upset next week in a state where a Republican has not been elected governor in a generation.
Both candidates have sought support from Orthodox groups in the race, with two polls released Tuesday showing Zeldin up by one point and Hochul leading by eight, with the race possibly coming down to who can mobilize supporters more.
When asked about support for the Yeshiva system as it faces the threat of regulation, Hochul has previously noted that she does not oversee yeshivas as governor – a job done by the State Education Department – while deflecting about whether she believes some schools are violating state laws aimed at making sure students learn secular topics like English and math.
In a letter Hochul released to the Orthodox Jewish community on November 1st, she pledged to do everything in her power to protect the community from the evil and hatred of antisemitism and to fight for yeshivas.
“New York has zero tolerance for antisemitism. This community has been targeted for so many years and I will do everything in my power to protect you from evil and hate and will continue to fight for your right to practice your religion and teach your children with your religious education,” she wrote.
“I ask you for your support and vote in this upcoming election and look forward to continuing to serve as your governor,” she added.
Hochul recently paid a visit to the Rebbe’s Ohel gravesite in Queens, where she wrote a personal pan-note of prayer, writing, “May God help me be a messenger on behalf of the Jewish community in New York and protect them from all evil and hate.”
This is huge. Satmar is the Chasidic group the has been more vocal about Yeshivas than any other Jewish group and they’re supporting @GovKathyHochul 🚨🚨🚨 https://t.co/6aYDtEPVJZ

🚨Big endorsement for @leezeldin in the Orthodox community.

It’s nice to see some orthodox Jews who know how to vote. All these Zeldin signs around crown heights are so embarrassing. Satmar is more progressive than Lubavitch!
So glad we are not progressive
Can you imagine if we actually practiced what the Torah preaches and treated people with kindness and respect the way progressives do? BH we’re avoiding that. Wouldn’t want to be caught doing the right thing.
Please cite your Torah source for showing kindness when your safety, core values, and beliefs are under attack.
was it not Rabbi Akiva who said that the foundation of the entire world is ve’ahavta lereacha kamocha?
What core values? I am not against torah and religion as I am religious myself but it is time for change and it is time for a new age. It is time to bury the old ways and move on to a progressive future of opportunities, unity and love meaning everyone come tOgether instead of being so split and divided, fountain of knowledge, smart and independent decisions, smart and independent lives, first class rights for women, and full democracy or we could choose republican and live in the past with the problems that came with it you choose.
Progressive? Who wants to be “progressive?” Not really something we should be aspiring to. Educate yourself.
To not be progressive actually leads me to believe that you suffer from a massive lack of education.
Guess who votes for republicans? Uneducated white people. Guess who votes for democrats? College graduating people of all races.
Lucky for you, it doesn’t take too much education to figure out what each party stands for after that fun fact.
It’s amazing how brainwashed you are. So let me put it in a way that you can comprehend: I have three degrees from major universities. I would also sooner sit on a hot stove than EVER vote Democrat again. And your racism is showing. “Uneducated white people”? Honestly, you’re what’s wrong with society.
Hmmm you sound like an angry person from the outside who happens to be lurking here to start trouble. I am actually college educated and your comment is ignorant of the facts. You are paying too much attention to the media. College graduating people of all races? Did you mean to say college graduated people of all races?
How hypocritical and dishonest to say that conservatives are the party of “uneducated white people”. Do you even hear the racism in your comment? Why don’t you take the time to have an actual conversation with some “uneducated white people” and maybe you will learn something.
I’m not interested in learning how to be racist, but if you would like to become an advocate for anti-racism then there’s countless resources at your disposal.
Every part of your comment drips with racism and loathing, with the underlying smugness of an unearned superiority complex. But what else can I expect from regressive leftists? This seems pretty par for the course.
In a little over a month we will be celebrating Chanukah which is the anniversary of when the Torah following Yidden won over those unfortunate fellows who fell for the delusion of the progressives of that time. Unfortunately, in every generation there are those who fall for progressiveness such as the commenter above (@cool) and it is heartbreaking, but in the end Yidishkeit always prevails. (From the the first line of the comment I would think it was written by a non community member, but the second half of the comment suggest otherwise). Regarding Satmar being more progressive than Lubavitch,… Read more »
It shows how they are selling themselves. Progressive means unprogressive nowadays . Not 1thing the so called progressives ever have done , has ever progressed
And what has conservativism accomplished? It keeps us behind, it Keeps us primitive, it keeps us divided, it makes us hate, it takes opportunities away, saying so, my vote is clear.
Very disappointed but not entirely surprised. It’s a shame bc they have the numbers. And it’s all empty words from her and her party. Shame
No one is sure who is going to win. When pataki the last Republican governor twenty years ago ran against Mario Cuomo,he was ten points behind the Sunday before Tuesday. He ended up winning by two points. So polls don’t mean much sometimes. I for one and many friends of mine vote Republican down the line. As far as Satmar endorsement, they must of got favors now and not have to wait till after the election for it’s possible Zeldin will win.
If you believe this, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.
Like AOC once said. “It’s all about the Benjamins”
Love AOC!!! She says it like it is, calling out trump for stealing all that money from his own supporters to “investigate election fraud” when there was none.
how silly can we be look what she writes “and will continue to fight for your right to practice your religion and teach your children with your religious education,” she will continue to fight ,,, the same way she did nothing before she will continue doing nothing but in the end satmar has to hedge their bets if zeldin wins he will be good for all of us no matter whom we endorsed .. but is hochul wins now satmar thinks they will have a say and get a lot of money good luck vote vote themain thing is to… Read more »
we are never allowed to doubt daas Torah and especially a holy rebbe.
Satmar we all know that zeldin will win !! What you gona do than?
When Hochul wins gd willing, hopefully she will improve the education within jewish schools and then you can learn how to spell.
Hochul will not help to improve the education but she will not fight against progress either so at least she is being honest.
Zeldin not only spoke against the regulations but also did not acknowledge that there was a problem and offers no solutions.
There are more than one Satmar Communities in today’s world.
They’re being very cautious with an eye to the possibility that even with the push to vote Zeldin, Hochul may still win.
So on the papers they write Hochul even though from the bima they say Zeldin. Like this if Zeldin wins, all Yidden can breathe easier, but if Hochul wins, they can breathe a bit andcall in a favor every once in a while because they can say they’re the only ones who stood with her וכו’
The same way she stood by and did nothing for the last couple of months ?!?!
The other satmar Reb Zalmen Leib endorsed Zeldin. So the pro Zeldin Jews are Both Bobov,Belz,Ger,Chabad and the Yeshivash and Avigdor Miller crowd. Even though satmar of upstate along with skver endorsed Hochul, the young chevra are voting Republican. In fact this Sunday there will be a car parade for Zeldin beginning 1230 pm starting on Ave P and Coney Island ave. They say it will be publicized everywhere. Similar to the car parade for Trump.
It’s time for common sense and traditional values being the foundation for New York State – Vote Lee Zeldin!
What values? Mental illness going unchecked? Lack of new-age education, racism a norm, limits on immigration? Our communities divided instead of uniting and being the best, military guns in our streets ash if there is already not enough gun violence?…
We have to move forward and look for answers and solutions and think smart instead of still living in the past so that is why I vote for progressive democrats not far right republican racists and conservatives.
And Lee zeldin has proved that he is a loser with no answers and solutions just a panderer and big mouth.
