Getting a proclamation from the mayor of the biggest city in the country is a good way to start. Getting extensive print and TV coverage in Philadelphia was a treat. And getting airtime across Virginia was yet another coup.
But for the “Rolling Rabbis”—Dani Saul, Zalman Perlman and Shmuel Rothstein—it’s all par for the course.
The three are in awesome shape and spirits as they continue their east-to-west human-powered trek across the country—garnering plenty of attention as they do.
From New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg to the All-American towns of Charlottesville and Bedford, Virginia and down to Greer, South Carolina and Bremen, Georgia, the young men have racked up no less than five mayor proclamations.
And the media, of course, has been following the story with growing interest.
With over six outlets covering their still-young ride across the United States, more and more people are becoming aware of the project—and increasing support is coming in.
The coast-to-coast ride is intended to raise awareness for children with special needs, as well as funds for a fabulous program that services them: the Friendship Circle. Supporters, admirers, well-wishers and new friends of the three riders alike are asked to each contribute $4, in keeping with the project’s “Bike4Friendship” theme.
Founded in Detroit in 1995, the Friendship Circle pairs hundreds of teen volunteers with thousands of kids with intellectual disabilities and other special needs through its 80-plus branches across the United States and around the world.
