Rocket warning sirens sound in Rehovot and Ramle, as cities in central Israel are under attack today in the ongoing rocket attacks from Gaza aimed at Israel.
Medics are responding to reports of a direct rocket hit on a four story building in the central city of Rehovot.
Sirens sounded in the city following a rocket barrage launched from the Gaza Strip.
Footage from the scene shows extensive damage to a parking lot.
At least one person has been killed, and at least 8 injured in the attack, ZAKA said.
United Hatzalah Rehovot branch head Yoni Rottenberg said: “It was a very difficult scene with a lot of destruction. Unfortunately, the death of one of the injured was pronounced at the scene as a result of the rocket hit. In addition, we provided initial treatment to eight people who sustained moderate and light injuries. United Hatzalah’s Psychotrauma and Crisis Response Unit also treated numerous people for emotional shock.”
On Monday, Israel launched precision strikes in Gaza, eliminating three senior members of Islamic Jihad, who had been responsible for numerous rocket attacks on Israel last week.
The airstrikes, codenamed “Operation Shield and Arrow,” targeted Khalil Bahtini, the Islamic Jihad commander for northern Gaza Strip; Tareq Izzeldeen, the group’s intermediary between its Gaza and West Bank members; and Jehad Ghanam, the secretary of the Islamic Jihad’s military council.
Islamic Jihad responded with hundreds of rockets fired into Israel on Wednesday and Thursday.
