By a Crown Heights resident
I want to publicly thank and acknowledge the 71st Precinct for taking immediate and decisive action this Saturday night. The unprecedented response time as well as the effectiveness of their appearance was truly exemplary.
We live on the most densely populated block in the Jewish section of Crown Heights. This particular block has been plagued by blasting music throughout all hours of the day and night. It has become unbearable to live on the block. From May until October music blasts all day and all night, depriving hundreds of residents of peaceful days, evenings, weekends, and nights.
This is a situation that would not be acceptable by any residential block populated by people striving to lead productive lives. One simply cannot function productively if they could not fall asleep until 430 in the morning because music was blasting outside of their residence. Children cannot sleep, parents cannot rest or work. It is disruptive to unimaginable levels.
Last summer season the 71st Precinct has made numerous long appearances, each of which had a tremendous impact on the lives of hundreds of residents. More than they can ever imagine. Unfortunately, when the police depart, the problem resumes in full swing.
We are deeply grateful for the true effort made by the 71st precinct.
We’re very hopeful that the 71st Precinct will find a permanent solution to this very far-reaching problem. We encourage anyone with influence, including members of the Community Council, to wield their influence to improve the lives of hundreds of their constituents.
Thank you 71st Precinct. May G-d keep you safe and may G-d bless you.
Its terrible, on empire corner schenectady there is a guy who blasts music all day in front of the laundromat. There are many apr buildings there and everyone needs to listen to his music whenever he decideds to put it on. The police should stop this. 829 empire!!!
Now more than ever CH Residents actually has a very big chance in the Police stopping all the Marijuana/Weed Smoking / Music Blasting thugs that hangout in groups in ch, Usually the police takes a very light approach (Not because they want to but because they have to unfortunately because of all the Liberal politicians watching their every move and every step and basically handcuffing the nydp) But now with Covid-19 everyone (Especially these very same liberal ppl that are handcuffing the nypd) Everyone is fully against Social Distancing and demanding arrests for people that are Not obeying social distancing,… Read more »
File daily 311 Noise complaints and get your neighbors to file as well.
So thanks to the mayor noise pollution is no longer a thing.. we live in Lefferts and the back house facing Lincoln road are rented out room by room to hipsters . They are out in the backyard till late at night but guess what 1- the police had no access since it’s attached homes 2- noise pollution they don’t need to respond so we all suffer and dread Shabbos day when from 2 pm till midnight the whole building suffers .
Ask a shaaloh as to whether it’s OK on Shabbos to walk to the precinct station at NY and Empire, and to make an in-person VERBAL complaint (since we can’t call, email, or text them on Shabbos about this kind of thing). Even if it’s attached homes, it is still a valid noise complaint. Since when is a lack of street accessibility a free pass to violate the law? The police can be given “show and tell” from your building while it’s going on. If a Rav says it’s OK to make such an in-person VERBAL complaint on Shabbos, do… Read more »
I don’t think bringing guns to the situation is the smartest way around it.
Especially when they’re in the hands of mentally unstable officers with personal immunity from the mistakes they make, especially when for some reason they “fear for their lives” all too often.
You are reading to much CNN & NY Times, maybe next time you visit CH maybe take a few small walks to Rochester Park, which you will need to pass Utica Avenue to get there, once you spend a few minutes on the outskirts of CH you will become more realistic and face reality like all of us do.
The Police are Hero’s, They risk their life every day for your safety when you come to visit CH once a year, its that simple, Dont make it complicated.
all I’m saying is that there are better ways to deal with the situation. You can continue to lick the boot of the government enforcers, you can continue to do that when they knock down your door and point guns at you when some politician arbitrarily decides that something you’re doing (peacefully) is considered illegal. FYI the police stood down and did nothing during the Crown Heights Riots proving that they’re not there to protect you and no there for your safety, but whose sole purpose is to enforce the will of politicians what ever it may be (“To follow… Read more »
Yes, the police under the foolish Dinkins administration acted irresponsibly and dangerously by allowing the pogrom against the Jewish community of CH to go unabated, that’s a given. To allow some idiots, who don’t know the meaning of the word ‘JOB’ to destroy night and day for the surrounding hard working people who do have a job, who do go to school would be equally irresponsible and dangerous. Wake up and smell the coffee !!!
Are the police issuing citations to the wrongdoers, or just showing up as some kind of mere deterrent — a mere slap on the wrist?
If the perp. gets enough citations, isn’t there something that can then be done — just like if a person gets enough traffic tickets they can lose their drivers license? At what point does this repeated offense become criminal rather than merely a civil offense?
Isn’t it a form of assault? This would seem to be punishable criminally, no?
It would be considered cruel and inhumane treatment of the prisoners and it would be all over the news as a huge violation of the human rights of the prisoners.
So, why is it still going on here?
Have the secular media been informed yet about this ongoing problem? It’s serious!
It is a huge problem when the weather finally gets nice and we want to open our windows to the fresh air and then have to be subjected to loud music that has obscene and violent lyrics which glorify attacking women and that are often quite racist in nature (and I mean racist to Blacks themselves) IT is up to the Black pastors and community leaders in CH like Richard Green to come up with a creative way of bringing about change. As to marijuana – that is tragically a problem in all corners of CH. It cannot be tolerated… Read more »
