The city of Hampstead, a Montreal suburb, will impose $1,000 fines on anyone who removes posters of Israeli hostages, its mayor wrote on social media Thursday.
All across the world, supporters of Israel have been posting photographs of the more than 240 hostages that were kidnapped by Hamas during the attacks on Simchas Torah — the same day more than 1,400 Israelis were murdered by the terrorists. The posters have often been taken down or defaced by pro-Palestinians.
Hampstead Mayor Jeremy Levi took a stand against those who tear down the posters, a hate-filled and antisemitic act that has been seen around the world.
Posting on social media, Mayor Levi said the city of Hampstead council will adopt a bylaw that will impose a $1,000 fine to anyone who removes a poster of Israeli hostages from public property. Levi added that the money collected through the fines will be donated to Israel.
“The war in Israel has brought out antisemitism that we have not experienced in decades,” Mayor Levi told COLlive.com. “Anti-Israel rhetoric has become the politically correct way to express hate against Jews. Never again means never again and any individual or group that has a platform to influence change, not only has the duty but also the privilege to do it. Am Yisroel Chai!”

Levi for prime Minister!!
Jeremy Levi hats off to you
Every community in the world should follow suite!
Jeremy for PRIME MINISTER!!! Brave man who not only takes a stand but follows through on his convictions.
Finally someone that stands up to make a change!!
thank you Jeremy Levi for supporting Israel and all of us jews
I all for this, but it is a little bit way too much of an overreach by an already overreaching government. Now it’s fine bc they’re in our side, but what happens when it turns against us? Always beware of the government
Mayor Jeremy levi is a proud jew and member of the montreal torah center, whom attends synagogue regularly. His children attend a very good Jewish school and take much pride in their Jewish heritage. Please don’t make assumptions about someone without knowing them.
Didn’t make assumptions about him, but it seems to be that you have a short memory and combat remember all the not so good things that democratic governments in general have done to us.
Point is- don’t ever put trust in the government.
By being supportive of such actions now, you are enabling them to take action against us in the future with impunity.
And yes, sorry to burst the bubble, but if you put something up in public don’t expect everyone to like it. The same way that talking down the PLO terrorist flag is not illegal so too the kidnapped signs should never be illegal to take down.
